Ask Momma Wednesday #7

Photobucket

I find it hard to believe that the last time I posted was for LAST week's Ask Momma Wednesday...but ok, here goes!

My question is also about money (see Nomie's post). Health insurance - When I had our son, I was working full time and had my own insurance, which had fantastic coverage. We didn't pay a dime for the actual care or delivery. Once that business closed, and I became self employed, i went on my husband's insurance. Right from the get-go, it was WAY more expensive and covered less! Now we're thinking of #2, and the rates have gone up once again, leaving us with a tough decision. I can't get insurance elsewhere, I've looked & searched & tried. So, we've decided to go for a high deductible plan for the birthing year because the overall costs will be less...but my question is how to save for the upfront costs? We have enough trouble month to month getting by as it is, I don't know how do deal with this new loop.

What ways do you cut back on expenses or save on current ones?

  1. I'm not real good at saving, but we recentlly began putting 5% of all incoming money up for a rainy day. I know its not much but its better than 0.

  2. Hi, I'm happily returning your follow. First of all, I'm so glad to meet you. I feel the same way about a lot of things--the environment, eating healthy, exercising, and even Reiki (I took a course, although I have not reached Reiki Master status just yet.)

I wish I could help you with your question. I believe the fact that you are planning to save needs to be commended--too many people put expenses like these on their credit card bills and drown in debt... It's terrible that health insurance even has to cost so much (but I guess that's another discussion for another time.) I would probably create a budget and try to cut the costs of certain things...For example, I spend a lot of money on birthday gifts for relatives and friends. I know I can probably buy them something smaller to show my love and still manage to save a few extra bucks. Anything that's listed as a "want" gets special attention--sometimes I'll cut it out entirely and other times I'll make a compromise with myself. Good luck!
